Color/Undergrad Comd Fail

March 5, 2010

Was reading about color harmonies and Goethe’s incredibly precise color relationships (from Michelle Hinebrook: He suggested that yellow, orange, red, purple, blue and green have equal “strength” if the size of each colour forms a proportion relationship 3 : 4 : 6 : 9 : 8 : 6.) and realized that color was definitely a major fail in the scholarship poster posted yesterday. I think I mentioned that yesterday — it was something I felt and made me uneasy — but in looking over the color readings, I realized it may actually have been the major issue. As I mentioned, I think the typography in this poster is solid; it’s the color that is sort of even but not even enough and sort of distracts the attention. Especially with the red folder pasted on which sort of grabs the attention away from the yellow. (As Mike pointed out yesterday.)
