Favicon as logo

July 12, 2011

Realized that favicons — which I am obsessed with and love doing — are the same as logos — which I hate doing and find, generally, moronic.

Really quite an astonishing moment for me, actually, which I am a bit embarrassed about cause it seems so obvious now.

I really cannot deal with any website without a favicon nowadays, or at least find it incredibly confusing when design entities don’t have them. A million other things I should be doing but I couldn’t take it anymore and made a rough one for my antimeansyes site:

anti means yes, betsy medvedovsky

Of course a couple of differences: the favicon is above all, gestural, just a quick reminder of what’s what. Logo’s tend to to allow for more detail, which is probably why I’m less interested in them; I’m interested in gestural moments of shorthand not a symbol for all time that symbolizes the totality of what a company is… still perhaps a way for me to think about logos with more enthusiasm in the future.
