The fatal weakness of manifestos

February 15, 2011

“How to write a manifesto — ona form of urbanism for what remains of the 20th century — in an age disgusted with them? The fatal weakness of manifestos is their inherent lack of evidence.”
–Koolhaas, Delirious New York

I am silly and I thought I’d read this book when I actually hadn’t. Finally read most of it yesterday. Manhattanism as the goal of surrounding oneself with an entirely man-made environment. Times Square as the epitome of this. (my thought). Corbusier trying to build the Anti-Manhattan, anti in my sense of the word. Also very funny anecdotes of unclear truth about Dali and Corbusier arriving in NYC for the first time….
